The Mountian Lion is also known as the puma, cougar, panther, catamount or painter. It has one of the largest distributions of all western heimisphere mammals, once ranging from Canada to the southern tip of South America. These large cats establish territories that consist of many square miles. The males remain solitary except during times of breeding. The gestation period is about three months, with most births occuring in late winter and early spring in North America. Mountain lions are carnivores and prey on just about any mammal.
