The Ocelot is also known as the leopard or tiger cat of America. It is 3.4 to 4 feet long including the tail, which is 15 inches long. Ocelots stand 16 to 18 inches tall at the shouler. The ocelot's habitat ranges from southeastern Arizona and southern Texas to Paraguay in South America. It spends the majority of its time on the ground but is a very agile climber and often hunts in forest trees. Oceleots are carnivores and eat mice, wood rats, rabbits, birds, snakes, young deer and monkeys. They have been widely hunted for their fur and, as a result, their population has decreased dramatically. As few as 120 ocelot are reported currently living in Texas.
